Somehow the idea of patriotism has become identified with some pretty ugly behavior. I'm always glad when something reminds me that loving America does not have to mean that behave badly or irresponsibly toward the rest of the world. I live in a small town, and we still sing the National Anthem at football games, and have a Veteran's Day parade, and every spring the local grade school cleans up the local pioneer cemetery and has a small service for parents. And every year, I get choked up, and I remember again that though America is not perfect, it is my home, and I love it. I know what you mean about being proud to be an American.
