When life gets busy, stop for a minute and be glad you’re an American

January 26, 2012

Is it just me?  Who kicked up the throttle?  There’s school, there’s basketball, there’s Mt. Jenny (17 loads of laundry on the dining room table that needs to be sorted, folded and put away), there’s doctors’ appointments, grocery shopping, and work.  Then there’s cancer and the occasional bad day, there’s the days we run out of wine and don’t have time to make a trip to Total Wine, and there’s Mimi, who’s having her toes uncrossed tomorrow.

And then there’s my poor little blog has been suffering.  I’m sorry.  I started a post last night, but it just isn’t ready, and I can’t even blame Hyacinth for it this time.

This morning I watched the news about the Navy Seals rescuing Jessica Buchanan in Somalia, and I was proud to be an American.  It also reminded me of another blog post that I wrote after bin Laden was killed, God Bless the USA and the Navy Seals, and I’ve posted the link so that if you haven’t read it, you can go back and read a decent post.

Next Wednesday:  a proper post.  Promise.

XOXO, Jenny

Note: it was only moments after posting this that Papa began writing a wise-ass comment. I always know he’s up to no good when he asks me how to spell my name.

Jenny, do you have presidential ambitions? Must be, cause every time you get in trouble on the home front, you start waving the American flag overseas.

Be honest, it’s that iPad I bought you for Christmas. Folding clothes, my ass. Every time I look up, you’re glued to an iBook. Can you say TRASH novel?

I’m living with a two-and-a-half-year-old at Maison Bean while you’re living with a hard-bodied pretty boy with chiseled features in a smut villa in the Caribbean.

NO more excuses. Get in gear.

By the way, Moose ran off with my clock radio. Jax stuck his dirty feet in my face, and there is a big-ass zebra and giraffe in my room AGAIN.

OK, Jenny, ‘fess up: do you read bodice ripper romances?

I was all set to give you a pep talk, then I saw Papa’s comment, and I just don’t think I can top that. #speechless

Cheer up, Buttercup, and, don’t worry, we watch for your blogs. Petey the one-eyed Boston Terrier is looking for more pictures of Hyacinth…

YES! She reads trash novels….this is a long-standing tradition. The manifestation of desires in the printed word cannot be ignored. Those books are just too funny not to read. I, too, have been known to indulge. So does Hyacinth!

Slacker.

Oh Papa, you love it! You probably even gave the giraffe and zebra names!

PPP (I tried to type P to the third power but comments does not allow you those liberties), so Papa, Pamela and Portia: I have a very eclectic taste in literature, and it runs the gamut from bodice ripper to Shakespeare, from madcap mysteries to the Decameron and let’s not forget the Canterbury Tales or Hemingway. I do not read ramblings by uptight pilgrims and I don’t like Dean Koontz. The end.

Irene: I take umbrage!

Geez….

xoxo

While I got a good laugh out of Papa’s comment, I’m in your corner, Jenny. Sometimes there just so much to do, all you CAN do is read to take your mind off the other stuff! 😉

I know what you mean about being proud to be an American. Somehow the idea of patriotism has become identified with some pretty ugly behavior. I’m always glad when something reminds me that loving America does not have to mean that behave badly or irresponsibly toward the rest of the world. I live in a small town, and we still sing the National Anthem at football games, and have a Veteran’s Day parade, and every spring the local grade school cleans up the local pioneer cemetery and has a small service for parents. And every year, I get choked up, and I remember again that though America is not perfect, it is my home, and I love it.

Irene: Yeah, I got names but this is a Mommy Blog. Okay, it’s Big Z and Mr. Long . Are you satisfied? Jenny is going to LHAO.

Bodie: If see a big old man crying when they play the Star Spangled Banner, God Bless American, or Colonel Bogey March, come on over…it’ll be me.

Hey…we all need to run away from home sometimes. Better to do it with a book…it’s cheaper that way! Although you can probably kiss room service goodbye.

Jenny…share your iPad and let Papa read some trash novels. More guys need to read them….and learn. If they would, we wouldn’t need to read them…we’d be living them. 🙂
