Lilli’s dog has OCD

October 5, 2011

My friend Lillianna called tonight. It seems her dog Bear has been diagnosed with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, and this is why I don’t really have a post today…. because I was on the phone with Lilli for two hours discussing Bear’s prognosis when I should have been blogging.

I am also recovering from an extra long weekend with Mimi and the little Beans. Imagine being cooped up in a car with a 2-year-old and his soon-to-turn 5-year-old brother. The 2-year-old, bored, bopped the 5-year-old over the head. Pandemonium ensued… for six hours.

And then we arrived at the dead people’s house. I know that’s a strange way to refer to the family homestead—the dead people’s house—but the house belonged to my grandparents and Jax keeps asking whose house it is and where they are, and then he told his teacher that he was going to Alabama to stay at some dead people’s house.

Mimi’s mother was a hoarder. Mimi is a drill sergeant housekeeper. She has cleaned my grandmother’s house, thrown away the disintegrating bars of soap, the aluminum pie plates, the mason jars, the stacks of newspapers and magazines, and still there is an abundance of shit. It is no place for a 2-year-old, and Moose had the time of his short little life.

My grandmother was rolling over in her grave.

Mimi and Jax slept together, and I got stuck with Moose in a bedroom with a mattress that was purchased in 1957. The little Beans, however, had a wonderful weekend. There were cousins to play with, family to visit, pears to be picked and ponies to ride. And even though I can’t walk because my back is out and the drive back was sheer hell, I smile when I look at the pictures.

Until next week, XOXO, Jenny

King of the hay.

Please loooook at the camera, Moose!

A funny puppy.

The children's table.

Ready or not, here we come.

Pear fest.

The basket on the end of the 15-foot pole was very useful.

Wow, that pear is almost in heaven.

Mom, we need a tree like this at home.

When Mimi loves you, life is good.

Mommy, can we take him home? Pleeeeeze.

This is even better than the Honda.

That tickles!

You’re kids are freakin’ adorable! They just are!!

“staying at some dead people’s house”. ROFLMAO!!! PRICELESS!

I’m having the same issue with my father’s “girlfriend”. Last time I went up in August, I came home with 6 bags of garbage, 3 bags of recyclables, 7 stacks of newspapers, cardboard GA-LORE, and various odds and ends that didn’t fit into those categories. It’s amazing what you can fit in the back of a ’93 Ford Explorer.

No kidding, Irene. In one room, I counted FIVE flashlights. I guess my sweet little grandmother was afraid of being in the dark.

Sorry about that Jenny.. the long conversation regarding my sweet OCD pup, Bear. That is what over-breeding will get you. (How was I to know?) His condition seems to be getting worse, but I think it’s just the fact that I am packing, so things are “not where they should be”, so Bear just can’t bring himself to venture out of the bedroom!

Your photos of the boys at the “Dead Peoples House”are amazing! Moose is getting so big, and what great waves in his hair! ADORABLE! Thanks for the update!

Oooh, sorry about your back! Love the pics, though, and being a horse girl, I might have just fallen in love with the pony. As for the dead peoples’ house – I recently cleaned out my grandmother’s house – I have no idea how one person could have so much “stuff”. She was a “closet hoarder”, which means more of it was tucked in the drawers, cupboards, closets – pretty much anything that could hold “stuff”! UGH!

Looks like you had an amazing time with your family. Those are some of my best childhood memories at our dead people’s home. Hope your back is better and you’ll have some time and inspiration and quiet (hahaha) to write your next post.

Yup, totally love the pictures. I like how you match the kids in their outfits. It’s harder to misplace them that way, I found when mine were little. I think many old people are hoarders. My grandmother sleeps on half the bed because the other half is occuped by magazines and newspapers dating from the 1970s. She’s convinced she’s going to get around to reading them all. She’s 88.
So glad to be back! I’ve missed you my BBFF!
